Is Your Understanding Of Network Marketing Outdated?

I knew things in our industry had changed, but I didn't realize just HOW MUCH they had changed until recently. Now we all know nothing stays the same, and progress is always welcome in Network Marketing, but I don't think many of us are truly aware of the vast differences we've seen technology bring in just the past few years.

Ten years ago--even five years ago--a successful couple or individual working in Networking limited themselves to a single program. Why? Because working direct sales or MLM took a TON of work.

Mike and Rita were about the best Networking team around a few years ago. They held weekly meetings at the public library and held even more meetings at their home. If you made any contact whatsoever with Mike and Rita, they would keep your phone and fax warm for days until you finally signed up on their program.

Not only that, but a BIG part of Mike and Rita's success was due to their non-stop mailing of sales letters and postcards. Rita spent many a night posting their prospecting ads on Internet sites and newsgroups.

More than once they got kicked off of AOL and other ISP's for being too aggressive when contacting prospects -- a new no-no in the online age.

I supposed all the work Mike and Rita did was worth it, but at what cost? They worked night and day for years. And even then, I don't think they were pulling in more than a few thousand dollars a month.

Now let's fast forward to today. Mark and Sandra are the talk of the neighborhood. They live in a big expensive house and drive a luxury car. Most people can't figure out how Mark and Sandra afford it. They're seen at home all day and go on lengthy vacations five or six times a year.

That part makes me smile, because I KNOW what Mark and Sandra do. They're working in direct sales and MLM from home. Only there is a key difference in what they're doing from what Mike and Rita were doing a few years ago.

Mark and Sandra use completely automated online systems to find huge numbers of leads, then filter through the leads to find only the best. Only then do Mark and Sandra start talking to their leads.

You see, Mark and Sandra don't spend their days prospecting. They let the technology do all that prospecting and cold calling for them. The only time Mark and Sandra talk on the phone or answer an email is when a very hot prospect calls them to place an order.

And here's the good part: Because the technology takes so much of the work out of direct sales, Mark and Sandra are able to work several very successful networking businesses. Rather than earning a few thousand dollars a month, they're bringing in TENS OF THOUSANDS.

Plus, with all that automation (and help from their upline organization) Mark and Sandra are able to take off and travel the world just about anytime they like.

Now that's progress!

Can The Internet Businesses Survive Without Affiliate Marketing?

What is an affiliate program? I?ve been bombarded with this question from Internet business newbies since I got myself involved in this very interesting but challenging

online business.

Many years ago, ever since we started manufacturing products for sale in the offline physical world, we had been having sales agents representing different manufacturers to help the latter to expand their markets. The agents conclude sales without carrying inventory, handling payments, signing contracts, sorting, packing and shipping of the products. Their main focus had been to make the sale by getting the orders from the prospects and existing customers, which were then processed by the manufacturers or merchants.

In the Internet online world we have affiliates instead of agents. Affiliates are highly targeted pay-for-performance sales agents.

There are also some forms of Internet advertising that rewards the affiliates for driving traffic to the advertiser i.e. the manufacturers or the affiliate program owners. The advertiser pays the affiliates to place a link on their website, and the affiliate sends traffic to the advertiser in return. In other words, it's about the affiliates receiving commissions for helping in making the sales.

The most common reward is pay-for-sale, where the merchant pays the affiliates who referred the paying customers.

Affiliates are being considered as a complementary but very important sales channel although the merchants themselves continue to get their own direct traffic in making their own sales.

The affiliates do not have to suffer from the occasional sleepless nights worrying about the processing of orders, packing and shipping etc because this are being taken care of by the merchants who usually have an effective tracking system to determine which affiliates drive which orders to them starting with the so-called affiliate links. These are

the links that the affiliates put on their websites, newsletters, ezines or emails.

How does an affiliate link look like? You may ask. The most common affiliate link is embedded in the linking URL. For example, if you see a link like "http://www.abcmerchant.com/?xxxx=3456", you can be quite sure that the affiliate with the ID (identification) 3456 will receive money from ABC Merchant when someone places his order after clicking that link.

Other affiliate links are more complex and encrypted with some sites having their links masked so that the prospects won?t be able to detect that the URL they?re clicking is an affiliate link.

An excellent example of an affiliate program is that of Amazon.com who happens to have one of the oldest affiliate programs in the Internet. Other possible affiliate programs are as follows:

1) "Pay per click" - the merchant pays the affiliates for the driving the traffic and the resulted orders to them.

2) "Pay per lead" - the merchant pays the affiliates for directing the prospects to register their interest with a possibility of making the sales later.

3) "Pay per subscription" ? if the merchant has a recurring revenue from the customer?s repeated orders, the affiliates will benefit accordingly.

Why bother about Affiliate Marketing at all then?

The following are some of the reasons why Internet marketers the world over swear by the affiliate marketing as a form of their Internet advertisement and strategy:

1. Low budget

Many are hesitant to venture into any home based businesses because of the lack of fund or the unwillingness to part with money due to uncertainties. In affiliate marketing, you don't have to invest a lot financially to start pulling in profits.

2. No inventories

There is no need to keep and manage an inventory as this would be taken care of by the merchant.

3. Passive income through leverage

One could copy what the truly wealthy people are doing (or rather not doing). They earn their income through various leverage strategies which allow them to make money while they?re sleeping, meddling with hobbies, or having vacation in far away places such as the beautiful beaches in Hawaii or Malaysia.

Unlike a paid job, affiliates could just drive traffic to the merchants? websites without having to sweat after having provided them your ad copy and links.

4. Minimal risk

The main reason for most successful Internet marketer's extensive use of affiliate marketing is the low-risk nature of the program. This is especially attractive to those with low budget for advertising

5. Globalisation

With affiliate marketing, you are dealing with an unending global market place. All you have to do is study, research and select a niche product or service and prepare all the necessary marketing tools for your affiliates to direct traffic from just about anywhere around the world to your website.

6. Getting paid while you sleep

This system allows you to ?recruit? thousands of ?salesmen? who are willing to work for you 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The best part is the fact that they?re willing to do so for nothing! This is a system that allows you to switch your business to ?Autopilot? mode so that you could continue to earn money whether you?re awake, asleep or holidaying in Bangkok or Penang. It is a system that allows you to work from home or some places 10,000 km or more away from home.

Having said this, it must be stated that not all affiliate programs are successful. Many affiliate program owners fail because of their lack of the necessary investment, for instance, the merchant needs to invest in an effective tracking system, which is usually an outsourced affiliate network or an in-house affiliate software system. Another factor to consider is having sufficient human resources to recruit, manage, and motivate the affiliates with the right technical support and remuneration. Without a good support system in place, the affiliates will not stay long enough to produce the desired results.

Most online businesses use affiliate marketing strategy to sell their products which could include physical products, software or e-books. Service industry can also benefit from an affiliate program via a pay-per-lead program.

Before a merchant could establish an affiliate strategy, he should consider many factors among them are the answers to the following questions:

1) What are the benefits to the affiliates? What commission rate should be offered to affiliates to attract them and motivate them?

2) What are the competitors doing? Are there any innovative strategies that could produce product differentiation?

3) What pay-for-performance model should be adopted?

4) How to manage the affiliates and motivate them?

5) How are the affiliates paid using the latest technology without affecting their moral due, for instance, to delayed payment of their commission?

6) What affiliate software tracking systems are available and which is the best for the purpose?

A well designed affiliate program could bring very explosive positive results to the affiliate program owners? business and the stream of income for the affiliates themselves.

An affiliate strategy done right can increase online sales tremendously. There are well over 30 affiliate software packages to choose from. There are also more than 200 features in affiliate software and network offerings.

With all these possibilities, no wonder many success stories of the Internet businesses today are the results of suitable application of affiliate programs. Indeed, most online businesses could not survive today without effective affiliate programs.

Internet Marketing - Surviving the First Year

Internet Marketing - Surviving the First Year

 by: Keith Thompson

So you've decided to take the leap into deep water and go into business for yourself, specifically into Internet Marketing. Congratulations! This was a smart decision, one that will eventually reward you with all the dreams you can dream. Your challenge now is to survive that 1st year.

Hopefully you're reading this early on in your endeavors, and can make the adjustments necessary to keep your enterprise afloat and your bank account bouyant. Here are several things the "gurus" neglected to mention along the way to building your own internet marketing empire!

1 - Who are you listening to? There are a lot of people who've made a lot of money, and they're all too eager to tell you about it, frequently in the form of their latest product. It's very easy to find yourself tuning in too many voices, instead of riding one horse till it either gets you there or is spent. Find a niche that interests you, find products that are either yours or through an affiliate program, and focus entirely on your plan, not allowing yourself to chase rabbits.

2 - What is certain! And that is that the real money to be made in internet marketing is produced in the following ways: owning your own site(s), your own products, your own opt-in mailing list, and your own vision! Think about it! Not one of the internet millionaires to whom we look to for advice has lacked any of these for very long. You bought their products off their sites, joined their mailing lists, and to one degree or another shared their vision. If you haven't already, begin immediately to build your own empire. Build a site, start learning about traffic, linking, opt-in lists and all the other essentials necessary for long-term success. Affiliate marketing will only take you so far. In fact, most of the top affiliates have several of their own products!

3 - The learning curve. There is a certain amount of information you simply have to either learn (or pay for). Don't discount the fact that this will take a little time. One doesn't discover how to build and market a fully- optimized web site in a month. Or three! This is; and because of the fluid nature of the web; always will be a work-in-progress. Do what you can do every day and come back tomorrow for more. Don't be discouraged when the money takes a while to appear; if you do this right, when it does show up it will be worth the wait!

4 - A support system. Get one. Don't plan on supporting yourself from your business right away. It took the best at the very least several months to start seeing any real money. Don't despair if you turn out to be mortal, too. Give yourself a chance at this; the rewards are simply too great. I'll leave you with a quote that sustained me many a night: "I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship." - Louisa May Alcott

Spam Free Marketing

Spam-Free Marketing
by Donna Schwartz Mills

I received an email the other day from a work at home mom who recently started a small publishing company. She wanted to start selling advertising to other WAHM businesses but was concerned about bulk emailing them... with good reason.

Spam is the four-letter word that most offends those of us working online. Everyone with a website receives it and like bad art, we all know it when we see it. But also -like art- in a way, spam is in the eye of the beholder. I have participated in discussions that disintegrated because each member had his or her own definition of spam and was angry at those who disagreed.

In the offline world, it is perfectly acceptable to cold-call or snail mail a business to tell them about a product or service you offer. When I worked in an office environment, I took such calls all the time. Often, I said 'no thank you' and that was the end of it. But every once in a while, the call came in at just the time I was searching for such an item - and a sale would be made.

Of course, the power and low-cost of email make this an inexact comparison. So what do you do when you have a product or service that you *know* your target market *needs* -- and you want to use the power of the Internet to let them know about it?

THE PERSONAL APPROACH

The keywords are 'target market.' Find out who they are by doing an Internet search to find them. Check out sites which include directories of businesses in your target market. Then, visit those sites - and send their owners a *personal* email pitching your product. Be sure to use their *names* and comment on something you learn about their businesses from their sites. If they offer newsletters, sign up for them and comment upon something you read there. This establishes a prior business relationship and is not considered spam by *most* people.

However, even this personal approach will offend *some* webmasters, and it will cost you a lot of time relative to the number of people you reach. A more efficient means of getting your message out would be to join discussion groups geared to your audience and announce your product there.

ONLINE NETWORKING THROUGH DISCUSSION LISTS

But message boards and discussion lists have their own spam issues. When joining a list, you must read their guidelines and follow them. Sending out a blatant advertisement to the members of a discussion list will not be tolerated - but you are welcome to describe your business where it is *appropriate* (i.e., someone asks where they can find a product just like yours and you announce that you just happen to sell that).

You are also allowed to put information in your sig line that directs people to your website - so whenever you contribute to the discussion, you have an opportunity to promote your business.

When you join, sit back for a couple of days and follow the conversation so you can get a feel for the tone of the discussion, the people involved and what is customary among them. Then, introduce yourself as a new member (which also give you an opportunity to bring up the subject of your business, website, product - within the guidelines they set when you join).

An added benefit to marketing through discussion groups is the fact that you will build new relationships with other business people that can lead to joint ventures, assistance and even friendship. In the offline world, it is similar to being part of a chamber of commerce or other networking group and it works just as well on the web.

At the ParentPreneur Club, we have our own discussion group, PPC Advisory, where members brainstorm the issues they face as work at home parents. To join, email mailto:ppca-subscribe@topica.com .

Here are more of my favorite groups targeted to work at home parents. You'll find others specific to your needs by searching for them at http://www.yahoogroups.com and http://www.topica.com

mailto:clubmom-affiliates-subscribe@yahoogroups.com This group is made up of members of the Club Mom affiliate program. All members have websites with mom-related content and products, which makes them ideal partners for the Club Mom membership program. You must be an affiliate of Club Mom to be a member of this list.

mailto:DirectSelling-subscribe@yahoogroups.com For direct sales consultants who exchange ideas and suggestions on building a client base, fund raising, recruiting, booking, inspiration, motivation, party games, contests, merchandising, holiday ideas and more.

mailto:EP-subscribe@yahoogroups.com This is a function of the Entrepreneurial Parents (http://www.en-parent.com ) website. A forum for Entrepreneurial Parents (EPs) to connect directly with each other, discussing topics ranging from balancing work and family under one roof, to sharing practical business tips, to collective brainstorming, to supporting each other in responsible parenthood.

mailto:themompack-subscribe@yahoogroups.com The MomPack (TM) is a cooperative, not-for-profit organization, founded by working moms, run by working moms and for working moms to exchange business information amongst each other to help promote and advertise each other's businesses on and offline.

DON'T FORGET THE SEARCH ENGINES!

Do not overlook the value of getting your site listed in search engines, which will bring prospective customers to *you*. There are still many engines that will list your site for free. If you plan to do this yourself, walk do not run to http://www.jimtools.com . Jim Wilson carries one of the most complete free site submission resources we have seen.

Merle at http://www.mcpromotions.com also has a wealth of resources at her site. She specializes in promoting websites and handles our monthly search engine submissions for the ParentPreneur Club. Her prices are very reasonable.

GET PUBLICITY

Press releases should be part of your marketing plan, as well. There is nothing so cost effective as having your business mentioned in an offline publication or other medium. One newspaper article could result in dozens of leads for your business.
Karon Thackston has put together a free email course on how to write effective
press releases. To receive it, send a blank email to mailto:pressrelease@zipresponse.com Karon can also handle your PR needs. http://www.ktamarketing.com

Another interesting offer comes from JeriLynn Thomas of the Womens News Bureau. Jerilynn is offering a PR Boot Camp tailored to the needs of female entrepreneurs. Check it out at http://www.womensnewsbureau.com/prbootcamp.htm

EZINE ADVERTISING

Finally, there will come a time when you will need to pay for some advertising. Ezines that go out to your target audience give you a big bang for your advertising buck - your cost per thousand (CPM) is generally way less than what you could expect to pay in other media. Most sites that publish an ezine carry an advertising page.

We could devote several more articles to the particulars of writing ads and creating marketing campaigns. The one thing you need to keep in mind is that writing advertising copy is not an exact science. No one can guarantee how your audience will respond to an ad, no matter how well you think it turned out. The big marketers always test ads first and we suggest you do. You can buy ezine ads at deep discounts at http://www.ezineadauction.com (another site run by Merle of MCPromotions). We use it ourselves to sell remnant space in our ezines and have bought ads in other newsletters at a fraction of their published rates. This is a great resource for anyone who needs to advertise their businesses.

As you can see, there are lots of low-cost options for promoting your business online that do not entail bulk email. They're easy to implement and are proven to work... try them and see!

Apple Optical Mouse - White

Apple Optical Mouse - White
The Apple Mouse is available as a kit for purchase to complement your Apple system. It can be used with all USB-equipped Apple Macs. The Apple Mouse has no rollers or tracking mechanisms to wear out or clog, and no mouse balls to fish out and clean. Besides all that, there's no distinguishable mouse button. Instead, the entire Apple Mouse is in effect a super-sensitive button - the body pivots up and down to actuate the click mechanism. The elliptical shape equally accommodates right and left-handed users, and its glass-smooth surface makes it a joy to use. The Apple Mouse uniquely combines simplicity, elegance and precision to deliver a superior mouse experience. It's ideal when working with applications like Photoshop or Illustrator, which require precision cursor movement. It's equally adept on most any surface and maintains accuracy even during rapid movement.

Customer Review: Stylish! Trendy! Hip! ...Paperweight

I am an Apple fan who recommends most of their products to friends and family, but I think they put way too much emphasis on the ascetics for this gorgeous piece of crap.

PROS:

Totally mod, Innovative, Vogue, Trendsetting, Flashy, Elegant, Sophisticated, Suave.

If it were a car, it would be incredibly aerodynamic!

CONS:

The no-button-pivot-point is easy to accidentally click, especially if you have something on your desk that you might bump it into, e.g. eMac, because bumping even the side of the mouse will click it. It's basically one big clumpy button .

No right click button is a step backwards. Having to click while holding control should not be necessary, and I get a little sad every time I have to do it. Is this 80's?!

Everyone has been dragging something, when their mouse is nearing an object (emac, keyboard, ect) on their desk, well, in the less cool, non-innovative days you could simply hold down your left click button, pick up your mouse, and continue dragging, not losing your spot. This problem is probably pops up the most while using Photoshop and you're lassoing something and are running out of actual desk space with your mouse and you have to re lasso, which is why you decide to write a review on Amazon. With the new super shiny Apple mouse, there is no button to hold down, you have to squeeze the sides and try to make it THINK that it is still on your desk. And I'm pretty sure it CAN think, seeing as it's so cutting edge.

This sure was therapeutic!

You would be better off buying a USB optical mouse with a left and right click, even though you won't be able to hang with the in-crowd.

Customer Review: accurate

It's quick and accurate. Looks good too. The only set back is that it doesn't have a roll key.
